Moorlands Radio has joined the Stoke and Newcastle SSDAB multiplex today. The Leek-based station has been broadcasting on FM since 2009 and launched on DAB in the Congleton and Leek SSDAB Mux last year. It now becomes the sixth station to start transmissions in Stoke and Newcastle, joining Blue Sky Radio, Radio Caroline, xRhythms, Churnet Sound and 6 Towns Radio.
Leek has always had a strong connection to Stoke and Newcastle with many locals travelling into the city and borough for work and recreation. Similarly, residents of Stoke and Newcastle spend considerable time visiting the wealth of independent shops and eateries in the town and using it as a base for leisure activities in the surrounding countryside. So it was a natural progression for the station to start to broadcast on the neighbouring Stoke and Newcastle Multiplex.
Alternative Broadcast Company Director Steve Perry said, “We’re really pleased that Moorlands have decided to join us as it reflects the rich links between the two areas and is sure to be a valuable resource for residents in both localities. With Biddulph based Churnet Sound commencing broadcasts here last year, we hope that this is the beginning of a trend of stations from neighbouring towns taking advantage of broadcasting into a larger area. Not just here in North Staffordshire but elsewhere too. The opportunities that are now open for smaller community stations and advertisers to reach ‘connected’ audiences in adjacent SSDAB areas could be vital source of revenue for the sector going forward.”
The Stoke and Newcastle SSDAB Multiplex covers around 350,000 people living and working in North Staffordshire.
